INET-MD, Instituto de Etnomusicologia - Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança is a multidisciplinar research centre with three brances, in different Hugher Education institutions: FCSH/UNL- Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humana/Universidade Nova de LisboaL (headquarter), Universidade de Aveiro, and FMH/ULisboa. The mission of INET-MD is the development of multidisciplinary research on music and dance from different perspectives, such as ethnomusicology, musicology, history, cultural studies, popular music studies, ethnochoreology, education, composition, analytical studies on music, iconography, and performance studies.

The Chairperson of INET-MD, elected for three years’ periods, is now assured Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco, Full Professor at the FCSH/UNL..

Viewing the functioning of the Institute, there is a Scientific Boards, constituted by the representatives elected every three years by the Ph.D. scholars integrated in each of the INET-MD branches. Thus, at present, FMH is represented by Professor Daniel Tércio. Professor Luísa Roubaud co-assists tin the branch coordination, and the research line in ethnochoreology and cultural studies in dance.

The research program developed by the FMH branch comprises research field as well as files on music and dance, focusing and questioning processes and study areas, such as traditional, folk, classical, contemporary, and jazz music and dance, music and dance in the community, cultural industries, technologies, and the media. This program encourages musical and choreographic creation as a result of research, and the promotion of research in emerging areas related to research integrated perspectives in performing arts. The research line of research focused on the pole is identified within the ethnochoreology and cultural studies in dance.
